Today is my oldest son’s birthday, so I am writing a Love Letter to him, with my focus being on life and the pursuit of happiness. It is my desire that you find inspiration and feel uplifted through this letter…
My Xandy,
Today is the day that my life changed forever. Your arrival in my life caused my life to both slow down and also speed up, at the same time. I slowed down to grow and be with you, and this opened my eyes to see the world in a way that I had never seen it before.
I am so grateful for all that I have learned from you.
As you grow up and I watch you change and become the person you are to be, I have so many things that I wish for you. I believe we all desire to find happiness in this life, but I hope that you choose the path less travelled to get there.
I hope you see that happiness is a unique thing. It is not truly found in following the expectations of others, as it is found inside you. Feeling happy will not stay for long if you try to find it in external things–achievements, status, family, popularity. It starts inside with your relationship with yourself.
I hope you see that happiness is not really the goal. I hope you realize that internal peace and freedom is far more valuable. Once you achieve inner calm, you will find that it makes you feel free because you can be who you truly are. Finding inner calm means that you are no longer at war with yourself. You know who you are, and you will feel confident in that, regardless of how someone else sees you or reacts to you. Knowing how to maintain your sense of freedom will then become the goal. This is Love.
Love is freedom.
Love is who you truly are.
Love is the goal, and what our world needs more than anything.
You already tell me how “Love has no limits.”
May you continue to grow in your awareness of what Love really is.
May you choose Love over fear, over and over again in your life.
May you learn to offer Love to others, so that they may be set free.
May you fully realize that everything you need is inside you, so that you may build an authentic and alive life that comes from Love.
